Summer Camp — A New Breed of the Traditional
"Summer Camp"
Since 2000 Soul Survivor USA has conducted a camp for junior high and high school students that focuses on providing training in leadership and equipping them with the tools and inspiration to use their God-given gifts to their full potential.
The traditional summer camp model has existed for decades. Most Christian churches today send their teenagers to a summer camp. It is our hope that this traditional model of reaching teenagers continues, as it has played a crucial role in helping churches reach their students.
The Soul Survivor Summer Camp is unlike any other youth camp in the nation. The camp is focused on the Soul Survivor USA value that "young people have the ability to be leaders TODAY." Using worship in song, seminars dealing with real issues teens face, outreach in to poverty stricken communities, and venues for the arts and entertainment Soul Survivor has created a comprehensive and holistic environment that touches the individual in their physical and spiritual lives. Teens learn about growing as leaders, how to find self-worth in a faith based Christian context, what it means to perform social justice, and how to deal with relationships.
Not only does the Soul Survivor Summer Camp teach students how to be leaders it shows them through doing an outreach to people in financial, physical, and spiritual needs in the Southern California area. At the 2003 Summer Camp thousands of young people will be going into the heart of Santa Ana to work with local agencies in providing an "army of missionaries" to meet the needs that government can't. This mission will involve "preaching the gospel" through action; or as St. Francis of Assisi stated, to preach the gospel and "if necessary use words."
Through this New Breed of Summer Camp Soul Survivor USA hopes to see teenagers' lives transformed through Christian values, inspiring them to become the world changers of TODAY. Our deepest desire is to send them back to their churches as missionaries into youth culture.
THE NOISE — Missions done right at home
"Actions speak louder than words." A powerful saying that captures the essence of the values of Soul Survivor USA. Today in every city across the country, poor communities exist, thousands of young people are raised by single parents, the economy is inconsistent, and we are left with a population of young people that are hopeless. As the Bible teaches to clothe the naked and feed the hungry, Soul Survivor has created a program where teenagers are mobilized to meet these needs.
By partnering with local churches, government agencies, and social service organizations, volunteers from Soul Survivor are working to better communities by impacting one person at a time. Each Soul Survivor event contains a "missionary component" so that we worship not just with our words, but with our actions.
Our ultimate goal is to host our summer camp in South Los Angeles in 2010. As a citywide mission youth groups will lead the way in serving and helping Southern California's poorest communities.
